I love you, and that's the last thing she said to me."
Saturday, January 7th 2007, Channon Christian was found inside a house at 2316 Chipman Street, two blocks from her abandoned car.
Chris's body was found by a railroad worker between 9th and Cherry Street along the tracks.
Months later in June 2007, news of the couple's death sparked outcries across the country and protests here. Many wearing swastikas and shaved heads.
Jamie Kelso a protester said, "We want this particular crime to be categorized by the prosecutor here as a hate crime, a racial hate crime."
Eventually five people picked up, Eric Boyd, later found guilty as an accessory and sentenced to 18 years.
Letalvis Cobbins sentenced to life without parole.
LeMarcus Davidson considered the ringleader received the death penalty.
And George Thomas, sentenced to life without parole. GEORGE
Still, the case was far from over. In December of 2011, another bombshell.
Mary Newsom was upset. "Now I'm angry, he's taken four years of our lives away that we could be doing something else, but now have to be back in court again.
Judge Richard Baumgartner's pain bill addiction and lying to cover it up resulted in 2 retrials. Forcing the families to hear and see graphic testimony of the deaths all over again. As a result.
In February of 2013, Vanessa Coleman was re-sentenced to 35 years.
And Friday May 17th, George Thomas found was found guilty on all counts this time life with parole.
Gary Christian told the media, "The end result is they're still wild animals."
Mary Newsom said,"I feel like justice is served t, it's been six and a half years, we all deserve it."
While the memories of this couple will live on the house of horrors was leveled in 2008.
In it's place a memorial etched in stone and a tree, reminders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom, taken way too soon.
