ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT)-- An Anderson County Sheriff's Office Investigator resigned Friday, two days after being arrested for public intoxication.

Danny Bowie was arrested Wednesday at the Kroger parking lot on Clinton Highway for public intoxication and possession of a handgun while under the influence of alcohol.

According to a police report, a Knoxville Police officer noticed Bowie was 'unsteady on his feet' as he walked through the parking lot. When he went up to him, the officer sensed a strong smell of alcohol on him.

When the officer asked Bowie for identification, he noticed a loaded gun in his back pocket. According to the report, it was a Springfield Armory XP40.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said it was his personal handgun.

Bowie has been with the sheriff's office for the past 18 years.
