KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Anderson County law enforcement officials tell WVLT Greg Denton fired shots at a couple that was renting a room from him on Batley Road.
The couple was able to get out of the home and run safely to a neighbors house. That's when officials say Denton barricaded himself in the home.
Officials told us Denton walked out of the house and surrendered around 11:30 Wednesday morning.
"It kinda blew my mind i'm interested to know what's going on," said Sharon Jones.
"He would not respond or come to the door or anything," said Sheriff Paul White.
Investigators said they shut off power - hoping Denton would come out. When that didn't work deputies fired non-lethal rounds through the window.
"The first time he came out he didn't have a gun the second time he had a gun," said Sheriff White.
"It's unusual for this area. I know all up through here," said Floyd Mckamey.
Deputies ordered Denton to drop his weapon, he did and was arrested. People who live nearby are just glad no one got hurt.
Deputies still don't know why Denton fired shots at his tenants.
Sheriff Paul White tells Local 8 News, that Denton has outstanding charges in both Anderson and Knox County.
