STRAWBERRY PLAINS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The owner of Angie's Market & Deli, LLC pleaded guilty to one count of Felony Theft after being accused of not reporting sales tax for more than three years.
Lena Angela Lampkin, 53, will have to pay $58,408.72 in restitution to the state. A Knox Co. Grand Jury returned a 39 count indictment for Evasion of Sales Tax in May 2010, charging that she intentionally failed to report sales tax from April 2005 to June 2008. Her sentencing is set for Dec. 2, 2011.
“I hope this case will serve as a warning to others who think they can get away with tax fraud in Tennessee," said Revenue Commissioner Richard H. Roberts. "We will continue to pursue criminal activity and prosecute tax evaders to assure fairness in our tax structure for Tennesseans.”
