KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Agents with the Governor’s Task Force on Marijuana Eradication say they found an average number of plants growing in Tennessee this year.

Agents say the dry spring hurt growth but conditions did get better over the summer. Still though, they were able to find millions of dollars worth of plants that didn't make it to the street.

"It was hot, it was dry and almost in drought conditions. and even some of the plants we were seeing, well a lot of the plants we were seeing, it was obvious they were being affected by the conditions," said T.J. Jordan, TBI Special Agent in Charge.

Jordan says east Tennessee is a prime area for growers. Some say the area has a near perfect climate for growing, just like it was for moonshine during prohibition.

"The terrain over there provides good cover and that's the biggest thing. It's flat over in West Tennessee there's not as much opportunity to use the terrain to hide it," said Jordan.

Agents are already making plans for their eradication efforts when the growing season starts in the spring.
