KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Faith Russell is just 8-years-old.
She was born with a birth defect that affects her spinal cord.
"She had the worst kind of Spina Bifida," says Faith's Mom, Robin.
"They told us she was going to basically be a vegetable and gave us the option to abort her."
But, that wasn't an option for the Russells.
Faith is not only walking, she's running and Saturday she finished her first 2K race at the "B Great 8K Run."
"Well, I just thought it would be nice for me to finish something everybody thought I couldn't do," said Faith.
"Any obstacle put in her way, she just goes through it," said Faith's Dad, Greg, "she doesn't let Spina Bifida put you down, she'll die trying."
With the help of her family and friends, this girl became an inspiration.
Her Pastor, Rev. Gary Hawley says she inspires him,
"Because no matter what kind of physical capabilities you have that hinder you, she's going to overcome it," said Rev. Hawley.
As Faith walks away with a trophy, almost as big as she is, she walks away with something even more valuable.
"I was proud of myself," said Faith.
All it took was a little "Faith" to prove to the world, anything is possible.
Faith has already signed up for her next race, this time she says it will be a 5K race.
