MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Volunteers got their hammers out to start work on a new home for a mother and her 13 year-old daughter in Maryville.
Habitat for Humanity called Saturday a "blitz" day for the project.
60 volunteers from two churches built the exterior walls of the home on East Harper Avenue.
Once finished, the house will have three bedrooms and a front porch.
The organization says the first day of construction is always exciting.
"It just shows you how people feel about Habitat. Habitat just has such a great reputation, a great name. And it's a hand-up, not a hand-out. The homeowners were here, the family that's gonna live here was here, so it's just exciting," said Doug Jenkins with Habitat.
The home is expected to be finished in about eight weeks.
