KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- After an outcry from the community, led by Knox Co. Mayor Tim Burchett, a meeting to discuss school security issues will be open to the public.
In a statement, Knox County School Board Chair Karen Carson said because of the communities "interest in school security," the meeting will now be in a public forum, and rescheduled for Friday.
Tuesday morning, Burchett issued a statement, that called on Carson to 'sunshine' the meeting, opening it up to the media and the public.
Along with Carson and Burchett, Commission Chair Tony Norman, Law Director Bud Armstrong, Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones, Police Chief David Rausch, Superintendent Jim McIntyre, and Public Building Authority CEO Dale Smith will be present.
The meeting will be held March 1 at 4 p.m. in the Andrew Johnson Building's first floor boardroom.
