PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Business activity in Pigeon Forge was brisk for September, and many in the city are excited about positive numbers that lead into the peak fall season.

In a memo to the business community, Leon Downey, Director of the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism, said that business was brisk in all segments in a month that sometimes presents a lull between the end of the summer vacation season and the fall foliage season.

The report shows that lodging lead all other business categories with a total of $18,030,938 in revenue for the month. Restaurant revenues were $12,568,879, representing a 3% increase over September 2011. Amusement business revenues were up 15% to $8,546,354 over the same month last year.

Downey says Labor Day weekend combined with two major car shows and other special events that helped boost the monthly business in Pigeon Forge.
