Camp Creek community dedicates storm memorial

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An East Tennessee community has dedicated a memorial to eight people who died last April in tornadoes spawned by severe storms.

The Camp Creek community -- including families, firefighters, police and volunteers -- gathered Saturday afternoon in a field near the Camp Creek school where the stone memorial sits.

The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/Iwhxt5) reports the ceremony included a time for family members of those who died to come forward and place a rose on the stone, which had the names of the victims engraved on it.

Camp Creek Fire Department member Ray Shelton, who spoke at the ceremony, said he hoped area residents would soon have property that was destroyed or damaged rebuilt. However, he says it will "take a while to heal the wound of what's happened to our community."
