JACKSBORO, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Jacksboro Middle School Resource Officer (SRO) and an Auxiliary Officer have both been fired after allegations of misconduct arose, the Campbell Co. Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), SRO Todd Hatmaker and Aux. officer Steven Todd Miller had exchanged "inappropriate" pictures taken with the same Campbell Co. High School girl. According to deputies, they were sent through text messages. This was Hatmaker's first year as an SRO at Jacksboro Middle School. He became a deputy in 2011. Miller has been a volunteer deputy since 2010.
Many were shocked by the news:
"It's hard to believe - that's all I've got to say. I mean, for a police officer to send text messages - just don't sound right to me," said Robert Bullman, a Jacksboro Middle School grandparent.
The TBI noted that its investigation is still ongoing and no one has been charged so far.
The Campbell Co. Sheriff's Office said handed the case over to the TBI after learning of the allegations on February 13th and immediately contacting the 8th Judicial District Attorney General's Office. Once the investigation is complete, the TBI will deliver its findings to the District Attorney General.
