Campbell County goes green for Katelyn Norman

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Take a drive down highway 63 in Campbell County and you'll see a town painted green.

Businesses, homes and even city buildings have tied up green ribbons. Restaurants and grocery stores have posted well wishes for Katelyn Norman on their marquees. Campbell County High Students have posted a special note on the school's front gate.

"It's been amazing how many I've seen. It's been surprising and it's good to see that many supporting her," said postman Con Maiden.

Doctors diagnosed, 14, with cancer two years ago. Last week she learned it had spread to her heart and pelvis.

Together, the entire region has done everything it can to show Katelyn she's in their thoughts and prayers.

"I think that just shows her that, 'Hey, we're here for you. We're behind you 100 percent and we're with you every step of the way," said school nurse Sharon Shepherd.

She posted a bucket list on Facebook outlining several things she'd like to do before she died. Many have worked to help her check items off by planning a special prom and organizing a motorcycle ride. But friends say, it's Katelyn who's given the most.

"I don't think she'll ever realize how much she's pulled every body together... just one single human being," said Shepherd.

Leaving behind a legacy few could ever forget.

"She's still beating it to me, and I think to her friends and family as well. It's not beat her and I can't stress that enough. Look at what's she's done," said Shepherd.

UT football players Byron Moore and Marlon Walls visited Katelyn at East Tennessee Children's Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

After the visit, Moore tweeted "It was great meeting Katelyn Norman. A truly strong young girl."
