KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Veterans are being recognized and honored across the country for their service.

The East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville held a Veterans Day ceremony to thank those who have served, and remember those who have fallen.

Red white and blue: the colors that symbolize freedom, a right that's been protected by brave men and women since the birth of America.

"And each one of them gave so much in their own way, so the least we can do is to show and pay our respects," said Chet Sewell.

Each branch of the military was represented in the crowd, and the National Anthem played as they stood proud. Sewell came to not only thank those who served, but to visit one spot in particular.

"We have a good friend buried in this cemetery, died about a year and a half ago. His marker is 2813," said Sewell.

That's John Fourniquet. He served in the Marines for 14 years before losing his battle with brain cancer. Sewell and his wife left flowers for him, and said a quick prayer.

As for the ceremony, it was closed with a 21 gun-salute and Taps for those gone, but not forgotten.

"We cannot forget the contributions that these men made to our freedom," said Sewell.
