GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Ober Gatlinburg had a busy holiday weekend and now plans a week of snow-making with temperatures going well below freezing.
Winter Sports Director, John Cossaboom, says he plans to crank the snow guns and go into full production tonight. He says the weather is going to be perfect for the resort to get several feet of snow on the ground.
"It's going to stay with us (cold weather), and we'll be making a lot of snow tonight and tomorrow night with these cold temperatures coming in," said Cossaboom. "Unfortunately most people only think we're open when we get natural snow and so if they get snow in their backyard they suddenly think about skiing and snowboarding."
Ober Gatlinburg has already seen several natural snowfalls this year. The ski resort says last week's heavy rain did wash a lot of snow off the slopes, but Monday night should gain some ground back.
The snow machines will be able to make about a foot of snow per hour.
Over the Martin Luther King Holiday, the resort sold out of tubing and had a course full of skiers. Right now 3 of Ober Galtinburgs ski slopes are open.
