GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Construction has started on Gatlinburg's new multimillion dollar sports complex, Rocky Top Sports World.
Right now the football field at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School has been ripped up, and construction crews are preparing to lay down a synthetic surface.
The sports complex will feature 80-acres of state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor sports facilities.
7 State-of-the-art synthetic turf fields
80,000 square foot multi-sport facility
6 basketball/12 volleyball courts
"Also all the site work has started and we're just very very excited about that. We're hoping to open that facility sometime in June of 2014," said Allen Newton, Executive Director Sevier County Economic Development Council.
Newton says the football field should be finished by the time football players are ready to start their practice for the upcoming season.
