Controversial Abortion Bill dramatically changed in Nashville

Posted: Wed 5:58 PM, Mar 21, 2012

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) --- It's called the "Life Defense Act" but critics said it would have put lives in danger.

Now, moments before law makers were scheduled to vote on the controversial abortion bill its sponsor, Representative Matthew Hill has dramatically changed the bill's language.

In the original writing the names of Abortion Doctors and the addresses of the procedures would be made available to the public.

So would demographics for patients, including the age, ethnicity, number of children and name of the county they live in.

That idea started a fire storm of controversy across the country, critics saying the information would make it easy to identify patients.

Wednesday afternoon Representative Hill withdrew the requirement to have any information placed online.

He did keep in a third section of the bill which would require doctors at clinics to have the authority to admit patients in case of an emergency.

The House will vote on the amended bill next month.
