KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A 36 year-old S. Knox Co. man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly changed a child's birth certificate, making him the biological father, so the two could live together.
Allen Coleman was arrested at his home by the Knox Co. Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Registry Enforcement Unit just after 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. He is being held on $80,000 bond.
A Grand Jury indicted Coleman for multiple counts of violation of the sex offender registry, perjury, and tampering or fabricating evidence for altering the birth certificate of a minor, said the sheriff's office.
Coleman was convicted in 2005 for rape and is on the sex offender registry.
"I knew something was strange going on over there. Cops been coming up in here a lot too, I didn't know what was going on," said Carl Dunn, neighbor of Coleman. "It scares me to let them come outside by themselves to be honest with you. Meth house up here, I don't know what else is up here, drugs and stuff. This used to be a good community to live in."
Carl Dunn lives across the way from Coleman. She says her kids have played with his for years and never thought anything bad would happen.
"Their kids would come over and play with mine, mine would go over there and it's just something you thought you'd never know around here," said Dunn.
