SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A man was killed when his car went into a pond late Tuesday afternoon.
According to a spokesperson with the Sevier County Fire Department, the man's car jumped a bush and landed in a pond at Perry Catlett Dr and Luther Catlett Dr. That's near Douglas Lake.
Kayla Blankenship was looking out her front window when she saw the driver of the SUV come down the street, go through a stop sign, then landed in the lake.
Blankenship called 911, yelled for help, and jumped into her pond to try and rescue him.
"I jumped in the pond, opened the door and I checked the driver's seat. Couldn't find anyone there," said Blankenship.
She says police actually found the victim underneath the passenger seat and was killed in the collision.
The car was pulled out and Blankenship's family spent the rest of the night cleaning up the pond.
Not much at this point, but Blankenship says she never saw any signs of him attempting to stop, and there were no skid marks on the ground.
No telling why he didn't, and police are investigating.
