KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Trial continues in Knoxville for a homeless man charged with killing a man who let the defendant and his girlfriend stay at his house.

Joseph Egan Underwood admits he attacked 52-year-old Richard Lucas, binding him with duct tape and stuffing him, alive, into a plastic storage container in November 2011. But Underwood denies stabbing Lucas in the neck, claiming his girlfriend Kimberly Anne Sutton did that.

Underwood and Sutton are being tried separately in the killing of Lucas, whose body was found in the storage bin, inside a shed at his house.

The fact that Lucas was still alive when he was put into the storage container is important as the state tries to prove the victim was kidnapped.
