JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A husband and wife from Jefferson Co. face TennCare Fraud charges in nearby Claiborne Co., according to the Office of the Inspector General.
Barbara Hickey and William D. Hickey are accused of doctor shopping - that is going to multiple doctors to get controlled substances and using public healthcare benefits to pay for it.
The 44 year-old Barbara Hickey is charged with three counts of obtaining a controlled substance by doctor shopping for drugs, using TennCare as payment. Her husband, William, 53, faces a lone count obtaining a controlled substance by doctor shopping.
TennCare fraud is a Class E felony carrying a sentence of up to 2 years per charge in prison.
