KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A man accused of killing his grandmother two years ago returns to court on Friday. William Morgan faces first-degree murder charges after he allegedly stabbed his grandmother before trying to take his own life.
In June 2011, police found 84 year-old Mary Louise Harrison stabbed in the neck in their home in Knoxville. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also saw that Morgan's throat was slashed.
Relatives said Morgan has a long history of mental illness and had been treated several times at Peninsula Mental Health Center.
His trial is expected to last a couple of weeks.
