KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville police are trying to find the man who reportedly kicked open the door of a north Knoxville home and shot a man sitting on a couch early Monday morning. The victim, who was identified as 28 year-old La Chandler, was shot twice and taken to UT Medical Center for treatment.
He was being taken to the hospital by Jazzuri Rouse when they stopped near the intersection of Broadway and Cecil Ave. to flag down police shortly before 4:00 a.m.
Rouse told the officers she was standing on the front porch of a home Oglewood Ave. smoking a cigarette when a man approached her and asked for a light. He then asked if anyone else was home. When she replied yes, the suspect kicked oped the door and shot Chandler.
Following their preliminary investigation, police believe the suspect and the victim had been involved in a previous incident.
The suspect was described as a skinny, black man, standing 5'1" tall wearing all black and carrying a black handgun. He took off on foot after the shooting.
