KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville Police Officers responded to an attempted carjacking in the parking lot at the Dollar General Store, located at 4112 Asheville Hwy just after 8:30 Wednesday night.
The suspect approached a female employee, from behind, as she closed the store for the evening. He demanded the keys to her vehicle and pointed a black handgun at her. According to police, before the woman could give the suspect the keys, he pushed her to the ground, hit her in the head with the gun, and took the keys.
The man appeared to know what type of car the victim drove, because he walked straight to her car, opened the door and climbed in. He attempted to start the vehicle, but did not know how to. During his failed attempts, he opened the trunk, and flashed the lights. After several seconds, the suspect quit trying to start the car. He got out of the car and ran across the parking lot, toward the rear of the Dollar General store.
Police are still searching for him.
