SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Sweetwater man has been charged with TennCare doctor shopping for the second time, according to the Office of Inspector General.

Richard Martin, 32, faces a one count of using TennCare to obtain controlled substances by doctor shopping as well as three counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

He is accused of going to several doctors in a 30-day period to get prescriptions for the same or similar drugs and billing it to TennCare.

He was also charged with doctor shopping last month.

“There was a time when people could more easily commit these crimes without getting caught, but technology has allowed us to find ways of tracking and stopping this crime,” Inspector General Deborah Faulkner said.

TennCare fraud involving doctor shopping is a Class E felony carrying a sentence of up to two years. Obtaining a controlled substance is a Class D felony and Martin faces up to four years for each charge.
