CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A friend found 58-year-old Kimberly Batty dead inside her Fairfield Glade home on Dovenshire Drive Wednesday night. According to Cumberland County Sheriff Butch Burgess, Batty was on the couch with a head wound.
"There was blood in the area there. And when most people die of natural causes, you don't have that," said Burgess.
Deputies and the TBI are investigating Batty's death as a possible murder. Neighbors said she moved into the house about a year ago and worked at the Fairfield Community Club pool. News of her death shocked them.
"She was out one day and my dog Princess and I went and talked to her. She seemed like a very nice lady and it floored me when I found out she was gone," said Linda Drury, who lives three doors down.
They're also scared:
"I made sure every door was locked and didn't get much sleep last night because I just wasn't sure. Because if it was a stranger, if they're wanting to get in, they're going to get in," said Drury.
"It does unnerve me a little bit, I have to admit. This is just not the type of thing we expect to happen on this street. Everyone who lives on this street are just retired people, who are low key and laid back. There's hardly every any excitement or action on this street," said Connie Parsons, a neighbor.
Burgess said Fairfield Glade normally is quiet, which is just one of the reasons this case is so unusual.
Burgess said he's waiting on autopsy and TBI lab results to come back. He said right now, they don't have any suspects, but said they're following up on several leads.
