KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Firefighters are batting a blaze that has fully engulfed an abandoned north Knox Co. home and shut down a major thoroughfare just before rush hour.
According to Rural Metro, emergency crews responded after a neighbor called 911 around 6:30 a.m. where they found flames engulfing the home, in the 9000 block of Washington Pike, near Bud Hawkins Rd.
The stretch of Washington Pike in front of the home was blocked so crews could battle the flames.
The house has been called a total loss, though firefighters managed to save a nearby barn.
