Division of Forestry: Restrictions on burning permits in effect

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Department of Forestry is restricting you from burning any leaves or wood debris -due to the high risk of wildfires.

Firefighters and forestry officials spent most of their Thanksgiving night putting out a wildfire in East Knox County.

"Our personnel are risking their lives and spending time away from their families fighting these fires," said Forestry official Ted Dailey.

Yesterday, (November 25) there were seven new fires responded to by the Division of Forestry. Most are suspected to be arson.

Nathan Waters from the forestry division said,"We quit issuing permits Wednesday of last week."

In spite of that, people are still burning causing more wildfires.
The department is looking for those responsible.

Right now, burn permits are not being issued in Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane, Scott, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington Counties.
