Dozens gather to remember runner from Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Friends and family are gathering in Knoxville to remember Lauren Roady.

She was killed last week when she was hit by a fire truck in Lexington, Kentucky last week.

Roady was in Lexington with her cross country team for a national competition.

She's originally from Knoxville, but lived in Washington D.C. and recently joined the Georgetown Running Club.

Her coach says she loved running, which is why several teammates made the trip to Knoxville's Lakeshore Park for the two-mile run and walk.

"Lauren came in back in March basically as a beginner and just improved wildly in a very short period of time, to the point where she'd become an elite runner on the verge of national class. In a very short time, it was an amazing progression," said Jerry Alexander, the Georgetown Running Club coach.

After the run, friends and family held a memorial service for Roady.
