A LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT is in effect into Wednesday due repeated rainfall. A Flood Watch is in effect for our area until 7 AM Wednesday. Where there are more pauses in the rain, totals will be closer to 2 inches but some will receive at least 4 inches of rainfall total. Creeks and streams run high and areas with poor runoff could face flooding problems. Busy commute hours could face more slowdowns, with fog and standing water on roads as well.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Emergency crews brought out the Jaws of Life to free a man trapped in his car, which was wedged underneath a tractor-trailer at the I-40 East-Midway Rd. interchange on Thursday. The rush-hour wreck closed the exit for much of the morning.
According to police, Jeremy Luttrell was heading north on Midway Rd. when he rounded a turn at a high rate of speed and saw the semi crossing the intersection. Luttrell slammed on his brakes, locking them up, and lost control of his car. The Acura slid under the tractor-trailer, trapping him.
After he was cut from the car Luttrell was taken to the hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi Tracy Scott Reno and a man who had been in the sleeper compartment, Justin Case, were not hurt.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, police said. They added that charges may come following their investigation.
