KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An Earth-friendly, pet-friendly family event called EarthFest 2013 will be held Saturday at Pellissippi State Community College's Hardin Valley campus in Knoxville.
There are no garbage cans. A similar event last year kept trash to less than 10 pounds.
There are water stations for visitors to refill their bottles, food is served on reusable Frisbees and there are ample recycling opportunities.
The theme of this year's event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is Rooted in Sustainability.
People attending can also exchange their old mercury thermometers for one that doesn't contain the metal.
