Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) -- There are just a few days left in 2013 and if you’re looking for a way to ring in 2014 there are several celebrations going on in our area.
The city of Knoxville will host the ball drop on Market Square. There will be ice skating, food, and face painting. Music begins at 11 p.m. and events from this year will be showing on the big screen and it's all free. The countdown begins at 11:59 p.m. with the ball drop and fireworks at midnight followed by everyone joining in singing "Auld Lang Syne".
Gatlinburg will welcome the arrival of 2014 in unique style with its 26th annual New Year's Eve ball drop. At the stroke of midnight fireworks will blast off the rooftop of the 400 foot tall Space Needle with music choreographed for the show produced by PyroShows of Lafollette. The Space Needle has added sequencing LED lights to the tower, making for a spectacular display. The event is free, but you better get there early because thousands of people come from all over East Tennessee for the party.
Also in Gatlinburg, Ripley's Aquarium Of The Smokies presents the 14th annual “Dance With The Sharks” New Year's Eve party. There will be food, live music featuring Andy Child's Band, and lots of fun for the whole family. It all starts at 9 p.m., and just before midnight everyone will head outside to see the ball drop and fireworks at the Space Needle. Tickets are $149.99 for couples, $79.99 for singles, and $25.99 for kids ages 3 to 17.
And just down the road, The Island In Pigeon Forge will ring in the new year with the debut of their new $3 million dollar island show including fountains, live music, a midnight ball drop and fireworks. Best of all it's free.
And finally if you're looking for VIP treatment, Timberwood Grill is hosting a VIP party featuring food, champagne, an arcade play card, and a pass to ride the wheel. Tickets are $50 dollars.
