'Walk to End Violence' honors murdered woman, unborn child

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The murder of a pregnant Knoxville woman remains unsolved, nearly two years later. While her family continues to fight for justice, they're also making sure her memory lives on.

Family, friends and co-workers of Brittany Eldridge hope that with every step they take, they're one step closer to end violence against pregnant women.

Women like Eldridge who was killed in 2011. She was 8-and-a-half months pregnant.

"I don't think people realize how big of a problem it is until it happens to their family," said Brittany's brother Jeff Sherwood.

Sherwood would have been an uncle today. Instead, he's walking in memory of his sister and his unborn nephew.

"We're just waiting on a lot of tests to come back and things like that to finally make an arrest," he said.

He's taking part in the walk, which began after Brittany's death. It's sponsored by her former employer Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance, Inc.

The walk began at the downtown YWCA and ended at the Knoxville Police Department.

"I would like to let everyone know that just because it's not happening to you it doesn't mean it's not happening," Sherwood said.

The hope is that more lives are saved than lost.
