KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An upstairs apartment caught fire around noon Sunday at a home on Parkview Avenue in East Knoxville.
Firefighters say they found heavy smoke coming from the unit when they arrived.
The victim was overcome by smoke, but officials say he refused to be taken to the hospital.
The fire was under control by 12:21 p.m.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire was contained to a bedroom with smoke and water damage throughout.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
