CLINTON, Tenn. (AP) -- A former utility district chief who pleaded guilty to stealing from the district has been sentenced to 10 days in jail in a plea agreement.
However, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel, Del Ray Roberts will also be on supervised probation for 10 years, must perform 40 hours of community service in each of those years and must put $10,000 into a fund to help poor people pay their utility bills.
Roberts, who is 53, was formerly the president and general manager of the Powell-Clinch Utility District. He was charged with stealing nearly $94,000 from his employer and using the money for a family cruise, dental care and college tuition, among other expenses.
A prosecutor said Roberts has repaid the utility, which is based in Lake City.
