Friends, colleagues pay tribute to Mary Lou Horner

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Dozens of people gathered at Central Baptist Church to honored a public servant who touched the lives of many in her community-- former long time Knox County Commissioner, Mary Lou Horner.

Those in attendance sang and shared their favorite memories of the 88-year-old and everything she's accomplished over the years.
Among the crowd, were local politicians who say Knoxville is a better place because of her.

Congressman Jimmy Duncan says,
"She didn't let any grass grow beneath her because she was always doing something. And she tried very hard to make this community a better place, and I think she did that. And in so doing I think she helped make this nation a better place."

Horner died on New Year's Day. She was a two time cancer survivor who volunteer a lot of her time, especially with the American Cancer Society.
