GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) - Highway 441 in Gatlinburg closed Sunday due to ice and snow, but visitors still found ways to enjoy the winter blast.
"We just came up to get away for a few days. Hoping to see some snow," said Jamie Darwin who was visiting from Alabama with his wife and kids.
The snow cut into some plans, but many tourists took advantage of the flurries Saturday and Sunday morning.
"Got to see a little on the top of Ober Gatlinburg, got to see some yesterday and just enjoyed the weekend," said Darwin.
"This morning we got up and it was so thick and pretty and we played in it all morning," said Allie Rae.
Several entrances to the national park was closed and snow below the mountains melted off by early afternoon.
"That was sad, but we got to see plenty of other stuff," said Rae.
Most made the best of it.
"I would like to see more, but the kids would've loved to get out and play in it, but you can give them a little bit and they'll be happy," said Darwin.
National Parks Service said Little Pigeon Road was expected to open Sunday afternoon. Highway 441 remains closed.
