GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Rangers at Great Smoky Mountains National Park identify the hiker found dead at a shelter last Wednesday afternoon.
Richard Lemarr, 50, of Knoxville was found at Tricorner Knob Shelter. Because of the remote location and inclement weather, The Tennessee Highway Patrol had to use their hoist helicopter to remove his body.
Lemarr left Newfound Gap Saturday and planned on hiking 30 miles of the Appalachian Trail to North Carolina. He was reported overdue by a friend Monday.
Rangers say his death does not appear to be suspicious.
