Holiday events planned in Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg has planned several holiday events throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Gatlinburg has planned several holiday events throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

On Tuesday, Gatlinburg will kickoff the long activities with a festival of trees. Gatlinburg's Festival of Trees will feature many Christmas trees in a winter wonderland set up at the Gatlinburg Convention Center's W.L. Mills Conference Center. The Festival of Trees will go through November 24, and benefit Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries.

On Wednesday, a community arts and crafts holiday show will open for visitors looking for that special holiday gift. The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community Holiday Show will feature unique handcrafted gifts made my members. The craft show will run through December 2 inside the Gatlinburg Convention Center.

Winter Magic Tunes and Tales opens on Friday and Saturday, and will run through the holiday season. Visitors can enjoy a capella caroling along the Parkway during this 5th annual event.

Also on Friday and Saturday, The Nutcracker "Sweet" will open in the W.L. Mills Auditorium. The Smoky Mountain Dance Theater Company presents this holiday classic in Gatlinburg, with performances at 7 p.m. in the W.L. Mills Auditorium. Call (865) 680-7369 for ticket information.

December 1 & 2 – Christmas on Ice – Enjoy the spirit of the season as local skaters display their talents on ice to the sounds of holiday music in a two-day performance at Ober Gatlinburg’s ice arena. Visit or call (800) 251-9202

December 7 – Gatlinburg’s 37th Annual Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade – This popular Christmas parade in downtown Gatlinburg is recognized as one of the very best by the International Festival and Events Association. Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park will be the grand marshal honoring 50 years of skiing in Gatlinburg. Parade at 7:30 p.m. features lighted floats, marching bands, equestrian units and balloons.
