KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- As the mercury plummets below freezing, hundreds of the community's most vulnerable members will be piling into area shelters this weekend, searching for little more than a warm bed.
For the first time since March, temperatures are expected to fall into 20's, which can be deadly for someone one without a home.
"Once you get freezing tempatures, it's difficult to keep skin covered," said Sue Renfro, Communications Manager for Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM).
People are already streaming into the her agency's shelter at 418 N. Broadway.
"KARM is so necessary because there would be no where else to go," she continued. "Not only do we provide shelter but we provide hot food and nutrition for people."
