Jumper cited for jumping from Knoxville bridge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A man who leaped off an 80-foot-high bridge in Knoxville into the Fort Loudon Lake was given a misdemeanor citation for disorderly conduct.

The man, identified as 29-year-old Matthew McIntosh, was seen jumping from the South Knoxville bridge on Sunday afternoon and Knoxville fire department officials were prepared to put a boat in the water to begin searching for him.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported a police officer pulled McIntosh out of the water at a park beneath the bridge.

Police Sgt. Bob Maxwell said McIntosh told police he likes jumping from high places and decided he would try jumping from the bridge. Maxwell said McIntosh told him that the water pressure was greater than he thought when asked if the stunt hurt.
