Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knox County Schools Chief Security Officer is on paid leave following a 2011 audit.

Dr. Jim Mcintyre released the following statement late Friday evening.

“I have placed the Knox County Schools Chief of Security Steve Griffin on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of a complete investigation into his relationship with the school system’s former electronic security systems vendor PSCD. I have taken this action based upon new information provided to me by Mr. Griffin late today.”

A 2011 audit shows Griffin's step-son worked for PSCD when the security contracts were awarded to Hardin Valley High School and Powell Middle School.

Deputy Chief of Security Rodney Beverly will fill in while the investigation continues.

According to a press release, Knox County School Board Chair Karen Carson and Dr. McIntyre will be hosting a news conference Saturday at 2:30 p.m. to address school safety.

The news conference will be held on the first floor of the Andrew Johnson building in the board room.
