KCSO searching for suspect in attempted child abduction

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knox Co. Sheriff's Office is on the lookout for a man it believes tried to kidnap a two year-old girl early Thursday afternoon. According to the sheriff's office website, the man followed a woman and her two children through Sterchi Hills Park in North Knox Co.

As he followed them, the sheriff's office said, the suspect kept trying to talk to the woman's two year-old daughter. At one point, the man gestured for the child to come over to him so he could pick her up, but the girl's mom intercepted her before her daughter got to him.

The suspect then ran off toward the Sterchi Hills subdivision.

He is described as a white man, between 45-55 years-old, with brown eyes and partially balding, grey hair. He's between 5'9"-6' tall and weighs around 200 lbs. with a full, grey beard and pockmark scars. He was wearing a blue sweat suit with yellow striped tennis shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the KCSO at (865) 215-2243. The KCSO Major Crimes Division is investigating.
