KY earthquake felt in East TN

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A magnitude 4.3 earthquake centered in eastern Kentucky has been reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.

It appears the epicenter of this quake was located about 10 miles east of Whitesburg, Ky. and happened at apprx.12:08 Saturday afternoon. Whitesburg is about 144 miles northeast of Knoxville.

A large number of people called various media and government agencies to report that an earthquake had been felt all over the region and as far away from Knoxville as Jefferson City and Sweetwater.

No reports of local damage have come in as of yet. There have been a few reports of minor damage in the Whitesburg area but no injuries reported thus far.

We will keep you posted as more information comes in regarding this phenomenon.

Update: The AP is reporting that the earthquake was felt in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, and even as far south as Georgia.
