POWELL, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Rumors of possible retaliation against the teacher involved in a fight with a student swirled through Powell High School Wednesday morning, according Knox Co. spokesperson Jennifer Faddis.
Faddis explained the rumors among students percolated up to administrators who contacted the Knox Co. Sheriff's Dept. which she told us doesn't believe the threats were credible.
Faddis added the school was never on lock down and intended to send reassurances to parents, informing them of the day's events. She emphasized that keeping the students safe was the district's top priority.
On Monday, Kenneth Davis, the teacher, was assaulted by a 15-year-old student while talking to him in the hallway.
The Knox County Sheriff's Department responded and arrested the student. The 15-year-old has not been charged as of yet, but if he's found guilty, he faces a year of expulsion and criminal charges.
Davis was treated for minor injuries and has returned back to work the next day
The incident is still being investigated.
