On Sunday, authorities responded to reports of a disturbance at the Express Inn on Dante Road in north Knoxville shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday. An officer approached a group of people demanding to see their hands. When one of them refused a fight ensued, police said.
During the struggle, the suspect reportedly reached for his gun; at which point the officer, who was identified as Joshua Dykes, a six year-veteran with KPD, opened fire and the suspect escaped.
