Layaway makes a comeback in 2012

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT)-- Layaway became popular during the Great Depression but lost steam in the 1980's. Walmart discontinued its layaway from in 2006 but brought it back in 2011. Now, this year layaway is gaining traction with a variety of other stores.

Walmart started their layaway program a month early this year and charge $5.00; however, that money will be refunded to you as a gift card once you pay the layaway purchase off. You'll have to put $10.00 or 10% of the total purchase down at first and you'll have until December 14, 2012 to pay in full. For complete details visit Walmart Layaway

Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us has free layaway until October 31, 2012. After that there's a $5.00 service fee. You'll have to put 20% down at first, 50% within 45 days and paid in full by December 16, 2012.For complete details visit Toys R Us Layaway

Kmart and Sears has free layaway until November 17, 2012. You have to put $15.00 down or 10% of the total purchase and pay in full within 8-12 weeks. For complete details visit Kmart Layaway
