KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- The Red Cross is also helping folks along the East Coast prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.
Saturday afternoon, several volunteers from the local Red Cross chapter packed up in a disaster relief van and headed out to Ashebrook, Virginia.
If the storm hits, volunteers will provide any victims with a meal.
The volunteers will also hand out emergency supply kits and help set up shelters.
Volunteer Marty Gensheimer says "Trying to help everybody anyway we can. So we're going up a day or so early to get staged and be ready when the folks need us the most. "
About 100 local Red Cross volunteers are on standby.
