Local charity in desperate need of help

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- 'The Angel Tree' sponsored by the Optimist Club has collected gifts for needy children for more than 35 years thanks to your generosity; but this year they need your help more than ever.

With nearly two weeks left before Christmas, there are still thousands of Christmas wishes that need to be fulfilled before the end of the week.

Dolores Wilson, a long-time volunteer said "There's many more names on the trees this year compared to last year. It seems to increase every year!"

The volunteers have been working hard to try and get more wishes fulfilled but it's hard to do when there's only a few days left.

"It's getting desperate. We have a lot of today stickers on the trees that need to be chosen today and brought back today." said Dolores.

It's easy to help even if you don't have time to add another person to your shopping list.

Debbie Mitchell, a volunteer said"We are all set up and ready to accept donations here at the mall. We will even wrap your gifts for you for a small donation. It's a win win for everyone. You get those presents wrapped and the money you donate will help the kids."

The Angel Tree is set up near Brookstone and The Limited at West Town Mall. They will be wrapping gifts until December 23rd and all the money donated will go to buy gifts for the kids that don't get picked off the tree.
