SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The longest swinging bridge in the nation has opened at Foxfire Mountain in Sevierville with a ribbon cutting event Thursday afternoon. The bridge is 400ft long anchor to anchor.
The bridge is called "America's Bridge to Prosperity." Foxfire Mountain says the bridge is more than three times the length of a football field and is the longest swinging bridge in the country.
"Found an organization called bridges to prosperity which helps people in third world countries access healthcare and education," said Stephanie Postlewaite, with Foxfire Mountain. "You know more so we hope for recognition for our charities. Not just our local charities but those around the world."
Three charities - Bridges to Prosperity, Americans Helping Americans and the Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains - will benefit from the bridge.
Some of the first folks to travel across the bridge, the Diorio family from Texas. They say it was an adventure they'd recommend everyone do.
"Awe that bridge is awesome. It's a sight people should see," said Abe Diorio. "It's breath taking, it's awesome it really is. I recommend people to come see this."
The bridge is open and takes about 2 hours for a complete tour.
