Madisonville teachers collect toys for 4 orphans after fatal accident

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--Three Madisonville teachers are heading north to Ohio to take toys and cards to four kids who lost their parents in a head on collision. A drunk driver headed the wrong way on I-75 in Franklin Ohio slammed into their van as they headed to see family for Christmas. Scott and Michele Barhorst of Madisonville died, now the four children Tori, Hailee, Logan, and Tyler ages 8 to 18 have no parents.
Their teachers are gathering gifts and Thursday they'll take Christmas to their hospital rooms in Ohio.

Now there are only four in the Barhorst family. Teachers remember 11 year-old Logan as a smart student. Logan's Reading Teacher Betsy West says, "She's a sweet little girl. She loves to read. She often asks to borrow books from my classroom. In fact she took one home to read."

Logan's younger sister Hailee also attended Madisonville Intermediate School. Hailee's Reading Teacher Melissa Moree says, "She's the sweetest little girl. She just lights up when she gets something right. She wanted to be a vet and she's very driven"
Teachers are gathering toys to take to the four children who are all now orphans. Moree says, "Anything a little child would like to have for Christmas. I'm really hoping a familiar face will help because I can't imagine what they're going through."

Logan's mom gave these hearts to the teachers for Christmas.
Now they're taking them back to Logan along with 4 kindle fires for the kids to have in the hospital in Dayton. West says, "It seems like the whole community is coming together. People we don't even know have messaged us."

If you would like to donate, they're having a drop off at Madisonville Primary School at 8 o'clock.
